Bring the future
to the present.

Our mission is to reindustrialize America.
We build the tools, systems and intelligence to make it possible.

The means to make things

A country capable
of building its future.

America’s industrial strength was built through knowledge, skilled work and the tools to attempt something new. Reindustrialization means rebuilding that capacity: the ability to design, make, understand and improve the things our lives depend on.

Future Present Labs exists to help people build it. We bring software, infrastructure, manufacturing and intelligence together so ideas can become working systems, useful products and enduring businesses.

Our ambition is a country where more people have the means to create. Where knowledge passes between generations, new businesses can take root, and communities can shape what comes next.

Rooted in Puget Sound

Many kinds of knowledge.
A shared capacity to make.

We began in Seattle in 2018, in a region shaped by people who build. From Pioneer Square’s working waterfront to Tacoma’s waterways and Kitsap’s shipyards, making things has brought people, skills and ideas together across the Sound.

That experience continues through aircraft factories, research labs, software communities and game studios. It lives in a rich pool of talent: machinists and engineers, programmers and artists, teachers and apprentices. People who see the same challenge from different sides—and discover more together.

This is the ground we build from. A cloud lab and a machine shop, connecting disciplines around work worth doing.

A common purpose

Build something
bigger than ourselves.

A ship, an aircraft, a city: each carries the work of people who trusted one another enough to attempt something extraordinary. In moments of shared purpose, America has brought its ingenuity and industrial capacity together at remarkable scale.

Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair gave that ambition another expression: a future people could walk through together. Science, engineering and imagination became a shared invitation to look ahead.

We want to carry that spirit forward. Help a small team turn a drawing into a product. Help an established business find a new way to build. Make room for the person whose idea has not yet found its workshop.

The personal computer generation

Powerful tools.
More people creating.

Computing opened another frontier: new ways to model, design and understand the physical world. When Microsoft moved to Bellevue in 1979, the personal computer era was still taking shape. Seattle Computer Products contributed the operating system that became MS-DOS. Small teams here helped put computing tools within reach of a much wider world.

At the University of Washington, researchers joined ARPANET in 1981. Later, studios such as Valve brought software, art and engineering together to build new worlds. Across classrooms, workshops and independent teams, knowledge moved between disciplines—and people found new things to make with it.

That is the thread we carry forward: powerful tools in more hands, and the shared knowledge to use them well.

The next frontier

Intelligence belongs
where we build.

The personal computer put powerful tools in more hands. The cloud gave small teams the reach of much larger organizations. Now we have the opportunity to bring intelligence into the places where ideas become real: workshops, laboratories, factories and the devices around us.

Edge AI brings computation closer to the work. Open-weight models let people adapt intelligence to their own needs and run it on infrastructure they control. Open-source tools give that knowledge a shared foundation—one people can inspect, improve and carry forward.

That is the future we are working toward: intelligence people can shape, tools they can own, and the freedom to build something neither we nor anyone else has imagined yet.

Intelligence with purpose

Imagine further.
Bring it within reach.

A design must become a part. A prototype must become a dependable system. Knowledge must reach the person who needs it. Closing those distances is the work of our lab.

We bring AI, software and manufacturing together to help people design, build and verify. Intelligence alongside skilled people—extending their reach while keeping judgment, evidence and responsibility at the center of the work.

Every generation builds with knowledge it did not invent and tools it did not make alone. We build in the open so the next person has a stronger place to begin. Reindustrialization is also a commitment to those who come after us: leave them the knowledge and the means to go further.
