Future Present Labs provides MOPA fiber laser engraving and marking in Belltown, Seattle for prototypes, parts, panels, small batches, and production support. Engraving is useful when labels need to survive handling, cleaning, assembly, or field use.

A MOPA fiber laser gives more control over pulse settings than a basic marking setup, which can help with contrast, heat input, and mark quality on metals and some coated or engineered surfaces. The right settings still depend on material, finish, coating, desired contrast, and whether the mark is decorative or functional.

Industrial marking details

Part marking should be designed like a manufacturing feature. QR codes and Data Matrix marks need enough size, quiet zone, and contrast to scan reliably. Serial numbers need a numbering scheme that will not collide with future batches. Panel labels should be oriented for assembly and use, not just the CAD view.

For anodized aluminum, stainless, coated parts, and plastics, test marks are often worth the time. A mark that looks good on raw stock may behave differently after coating or cleaning.

We can work from vector artwork, CAD, spreadsheets, or rough layout notes. If engraving is part of a larger project, we can combine it with CNC machining, waterjet cutting, or assembly so parts arrive labeled and ready to use.

What to send

Send vector artwork, CAD, material, finish, quantity, mark location, and any serialization data. If the mark needs to scan, include the scanner type or minimum readable size. If the part will be anodized, cerakoted, cleaned aggressively, or used outdoors, include that too.
