CNC Milling in Seattle
Future Present Labs provides CNC milling in Belltown, Seattle for teams that need precise prototype parts, small production runs, and practical engineering feedback. Milling removes material with rotating cutters, so the real work is not just loading a STEP file. It is choosing setups, tools, workholding, datums, and inspection points that make the part reliable without turning the quote into a science project.
We are a strong fit when the part needs more than a file upload: tolerance review, fixture planning, material selection, revision support, or a quick conversation about what actually matters for the build.
Common CNC milling work
- Aluminum, brass, stainless, titanium, Delrin, and engineering plastic parts
- Brackets, adapter plates, mounts, housings, panels, and covers
- Fixture plates, drill guides, inspection aids, and assembly tooling
- Prototype revisions that need fast local feedback before the next design pass
Aluminum CNC machining
Most local prototype work starts in aluminum because it machines cleanly, holds threads well, and gives hardware teams production-like stiffness without the cost of harder materials. We regularly work around 6061 and 7075-style use cases: brackets, plates, clamps, enclosures, fixture bases, and parts that need a clean anodize-ready surface from a finishing partner.
If the job needs stainless, titanium, brass, Delrin, or another engineering plastic, the setup changes. Tooling, feeds, holding strategy, and tolerance expectations should match the material instead of treating every prototype like an aluminum part.
Design details that affect milling cost
Cost usually follows setup count, tool access, tolerance stackup, and inspection effort. Deep pockets, sharp internal corners, very thin walls, tiny cutters, and tight tolerances on every surface can all slow a part down. A part that looks simple in CAD may still require multiple operations if critical features are on opposite faces or if there is no good way to hold it.
The best drawings call out only the dimensions that matter. If a bearing bore, dowel hole, gasket surface, or mounting face is critical, say so. If the rest of the part only needs to be practical and clean, that helps us focus machining time where it changes the result.
What to send
A STEP file plus a PDF drawing is ideal. Include material, quantity, finish expectations, threaded holes, inserts, critical tolerances, and the mating parts if fit matters. If you only have a sketch or an existing part, we can help scope the CAD work before cutting.
Milling can pair with laser engraving for labels and part IDs, waterjet cutting for blanks, or PCB design when the mechanical part is part of a larger embedded product.
Local Seattle workflow
Working with a Belltown machine shop helps when you need to review a first article, drop off a mating part, talk through tolerance tradeoffs, or turn a revision quickly. For startups, product teams, aerospace suppliers, audio hardware builders, and event operators around Seattle, that short feedback loop is often more useful than a distant upload portal.
